Pre-Premier Standard
Registration Scheme:

The Board operates a
registration scheme for dancers from Primary standard through to
Intermediate standard, which is the grading which immediately
precedes Premier standard. Dancers are not permitted to register
until the age of four years. The scheme allows children newly
started to dancing to monitor their own performance by means of
personal achievement card which is stamped in the following
circumstances: 1. In
respect of the Beginner category,
their card will be stamped at every competition where they win a
first, second or third prize in ANY of the Highland dances:
Highland Fling, Sword Dance, Sean Truibhas, Reel, or Special or
Trophy Fling; 2. In
respect of the Novice category, their card will be stamped at
every competition where they win a first, second or third prize
in any dance.

Black Highland shoes must be worn for
Highland and National competition.
No Jewellery to be visible, while dancing
or during awards
Note:
The following are acceptable:
Until a competitor reaches the Premier
section, it will be acceptable to wear white plain coloured knee
socks to match the kilt. Hose can be full clan or diced
red/white, blue/white or green/white.
Only in extreme circumstances of
non-compliance of the Dress Code should any penalty be applied. The
maximum penalty would be minus 5 marks.
Pas de Basque and Pas de Basque & High
Cuts (Primary) ␣ a mark should be awarded whenever possible.
Penalties: The
following penalties should be adhered to by the Judges.
a) Primary:
A deduction of 5 marks should be made for the following: Dancing consistently off-time.
b) Beginner
& Novice:
A deduction of 5 marks should be made for the following:
Missing the start.
Temporarily dancing off-time, or stopping
momentarily.
Touching, not displacing sword.
Heel of shoe coming off, or shoe laces
coming undone.
Being in the wrong place in a Reel.
Disqualification should result from:
Consistently dancing off-time. Displacing one’s own sword, or that of another competitor. (added in revision) Dancing a Step not recognised by the S.O.B.H.D. Shoe coming off. If dancer stops.
c) Intermediate:
A deduction of 5 marks should be made for the following:
Missing the start.
Temporarily dancing off-time, or stopping
momentarily.
Touching, not displacing sword.
Missing clap.
To deliberately impede another dancer.
Hose coming down.
Any part of attire falling off.
Not wearing hat for Sailor’s Hornpipe. (added in revision) Male not wearing hat for Highland / Scottish National. Not wearing socks for Sailor’s Hornpipe.(added in revision)
Wearing tights under hose/socks for
Highland / Scottish National.
Disqualification should result from:
Consistently dancing off-time. Displacing one’s own sword, or that of another competitor. (added in revision)
Dancing a Step not recognised by the S.O.B.H.D.
Shoe or part of shoe coming off, Lace coming undone.
Not wearing Jig shoes in Irish Jig
Competition.
Being in the wrong place in a Reel.
If dancer stops.

Hose coming down.
